Ascona E-Bike

This pleasant route winds around Locarno and Ascona allowing the e-biker to visit places of interest and beauty along the way. Starting in the centre of Locarno and cycling along the lakefront to reach the Maggia river bank allows you to have all the advantages of a bicycle ride without any of the effort. There is a cycle path for most of the route. Once you have ridden the length of the golf course in Ascona you reach the Grande Lido Pubblico. This is a perfect place for a swim before cycling on to the Piazza in Ascona. Here, on one of the terraces of the numerous restaurants, you can enjoy culinary specialities while admiring the beautiful scenery surrounding you. With its short gears the e-bike even allows you to easily cycle up to Monte Verità where a visit to the Casa Anatta museum is highly recommended (opening times: April-October: tuesday-sunday 14.30-18.00 / closed on mondays / July-August: tuesday-sunday 15.00-19.00 / closed on mondays). The descent towards Losone then takes you past the Siberia skating rink and on towards Locarno again.

Piano di Magadino E-Bike

The itinerary starts in the centre of Locarno and leads along the shore of the lake, where you can admire different types of cactus besides exotic trees and flowers. Cycling along the shore of the lake, on the “Via alla Riva” cycling track, you pass inviting natural beaches which, during the hottest months, are the ideal places to stop and have a refreshing swim. Along the way you will find many interesting sights. The first one is Villa S.Quirico Park. Located in Minusio, a few hundred meters from Locarno, this park of municipal property has free admissions. In Tenero, after leaving the shore of the lake and passing by the Municipal Port of Minusio and the Mappo playground, you will find the National Sports Centre. Carrying on the cycling track no. 3 you will enter the Magadino plane. After a few minutes you will reach the park “Bolle di Magadino”, a nature and wildlife reserve with ecosystems unique in Switzerland. A further variation for your excursion is to turn left at the Coop Shopping Centre of Tenero and continue, crossing the new footbridge over the Verzasca River. At the end of the bridge turn right to get back to cycling track no. 3. which leads you through the heart of the Magadino plane with its agricultural fields mixed with vineyards, there are farmhouses and the possibilities for farm holidays. Here you can also taste and purchase some traditional products. If your batteries or those of your E-bike should run low, have a break at one of the recharge and refreshment points on the route. Once at the bridge of Gudo, the cycling track continues in direction of Bellinzona. We advise you to leave the cycling track and carry on along the Municipal Road, until you reach “Alle Voliere”, an atelier of the “Diamante Foundation”. Nearby this agricultural institution, which allows the social and professional integration of the disabled, you can visit the “small lake observatory”, a sight of natural interest recommended by WWF. To return to Locarno there are many different routes. For safety reasons, we highly recommend you to choose the same way back.
